In "Red, Yellow or Blue? Concerning the Shape of Bauhaus Color," artist, scholar and SCAD professor emerita Marcia R. Cohen parses the phenomenon of color and its multidimensional qualities. The lecture traces the legacy of the Bauhaus school through the lens of SCAD FASH exhibitions "KALEIDOSCOPE KATRANTZOU" and "Form & Function."
A progressive art school founded in Germany in the early 20th century, the Bauhaus revolutionized the study of color theory. Bauhaus educator and artist Wassily Kandinsky theorized that color had shape. Paul Klee explored color in musical terms. And Josef Albers examined the very nature of perception.
Cohen has lectured internationally on the interdisciplinary dimension of color. She recently completed an artist residency at the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation and has been recognized with fellowships from the American Academy in Rome and the Fulbright Program, among others.
This event is free and open to all SCAD Card holders and museum members. Open to the public with the cost of admission.
