'Emily in Paris: Fashion Without Rules — Costumes by Marylin Fitoussi'

For six seasons, Emily in Paris costume designer Marylin Fitoussi has shaped one of television’s most recognizable visual worlds, creating wardrobes that have sparked admiration, debate, imitation, and conversation around the globe. Drawing on haute couture, vintage treasures, emerging designers, and unexpected discoveries, Fitoussi transforms clothing into emotional narratives, using color, silhouette, texture, and detail. This exhibition explores the vision behind the costumes of Emily in Paris, tracing the evolution of its beloved characters while revealing the artistry, experimentation, and collaboration that bring them to life. From Emily’s exuberant maximalism and Sylvie’s effortless authority to Mindy’s fearless theatricality and Camille’s avant-garde edge, each look becomes a language through which personality, ambition, humor, desire, and fantasy are expressed.

At the heart of Fitoussi’s practice is the belief that fashion should inspire joy and freedom. Unconcerned with convention, trends, or rules, she embraces style as a space for imagination, individuality, and creative risk. Her work celebrates rising talent alongside established maisons, elevates craftsmanship, and demonstrates the power of costume to shape how stories are told and remembered. Through garments, sketches, photographs, and behind-the-scenes materials, visitors are invited into Fitoussi’s atelier, where ideas become culture. More than a chronicle of a television series, this exhibition offers a portrait of a designer whose work has redefined the relationship between fashion and contemporary storytelling. As Fitoussi herself reminds us, style is not about fitting in. It is about finding the confidence to become exactly who you are.

Emily in Paris: Fashion Without Rules — Costumes by Marylin Fitoussi is curated by Rafael Gomes, creative director of SCAD FASH museums, in collaboration with Emily Smith, assistant director of fashion exhibitions, with set design by Trang Vu, senior designer of SCAD Design Group.
