At SCAD, the study of fashion is as robust, international and multifaceted as the industry it prepares students to lead. The most comprehensive fashion school in the world, SCAD offers undergraduate and graduate programs across four global locations and online in accessory design, costume design, fashion, fashion marketing and management, fashion photography, fibers, jewelry, luxury and fashion management and more. Specialized, state-of-the-art resources help students traverse their areas of study and push the limits of their disciplines. Students work with the same advanced technologies they will use in the workplace.
"SCAD is the most extraordinary design university … it nurtures its students, and the road ahead of them is paved with a strong foundation that is confident, strong, empowered."
— Ralph Rucci, fashion designer
To complement this innovative curriculum and leading-edge technology, SCAD has deep industry connections with elite designers and prominent professionals who give lectures, lead workshops, serve as mentors and provide valuable insight through one-on-one interaction with students. Under the guidance of experienced faculty, students develop creative and intellectual thinking, inventive design skills and the practical expertise necessary to succeed in careers. After graduation, SCAD fashion students go on to create their own brands or work for powerhouses including Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta, Swarovski, Lilly Pulitzer, Tiffany & Co. and others. In the Business of Fashion's first annual Global Fashion Rankings, the SCAD graduate fashion program is ranked No. 1 in the U.S. and first in the world for "Best Learning Experience" and "Best Long-Term Value."
SCAD film and television students learn the entire scope of filmmaking — the conceptual and the technical — to become professionals capable of realizing this personal and universal medium. From blockbusters and documentaries to sitcoms and commercials, this sector requires an exhaustive, multifaceted knowledge of the filmmaking process and the ability to communicate with others across the spectrum of production. SCAD students become conversant in all areas of film, discovering roles that best suit their talents and interests. This unparalleled exploration is made possible through the university's collaborative, multidisciplinary culture with offerings in television producing, branded entertainment, acting for the camera, visual effects, technical direction and motion media design.
"To have a university with an international outlook and an international perspective — where all the arts mingle together and play off each other — is wonderful."
— Jeremy Irons, actor
At the SCAD Digital Media Center and SCADshow in Atlanta and Savannah Film Studios in Savannah, students have access to motion capture and green screen production capabilities, sound recording and mixing suites, screening spaces, prop fabrication and Foley studios, lighting grids, postproduction suites and more. Students gain fluency with industry-standard resources through expert instruction by SCAD professors, who have received Primetime Emmys, Peabody Awards and numerous Academy Award nominations among other distinctions and honors.
Each year, film at SCAD is galvanized by signature events, including the Savannah Film Festival and SCAD aTVfest, star-studded events where acclaimed actors, directors, producers and other entertainment professionals discuss the art and business of film in this golden age of entertainment. Recent honorees and guests include Alexander Payne, Jeremy Irons, Timothy Hutton and Mindy Kaling. These experiences inspire students to create and share their own work with the world: In the 2014-15 academic year, student and alumni films earned awards from the Sundance Film Festival, Motion Picture Sound Editors, College Television Awards (Student Emmys), International Cinema in Industry Awards and more.
