Calling all young creatives! Handmake holiday memories at our festive card-fashioning workshop with SCAD alum Katie Michael (B.F.A., illustration, 2022). As an illustrator and in-house print designer for Carter’s children’s clothing, Michael is constantly discovering new ways to spread happiness through art. With Michael as a guide, elementary to middle school-aged students prepare charming paper goods inspired by current SCAD FASH exhibitions.

In partnership with Villa Albertine, SCAD FASH welcomes African fibers artist Aboubakar Fofana. Born in Mali and raised in France, Fofana dedicates his practice to revitalizing traditional dyeing techniques and textile heritages indigenous to Africa. In conversation with Lauren Tate Baeza, curator at the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, Fofana will share how his work celebrates cultural knowledge, specifically exploring the history of indigo in Africa and its impact on humanity.

Costume designers often navigate challenging historical references and unorthodox materials when dressing characters for film. Referencing the clever work of industry titan Sandy Powell, SCAD professor Amy Lennertz shares powerful insights on the impact these ensembles on have on creatives across disciplines and why the art of sartorial storytelling is vital to successful worldbuilding.
