Air-kiss 'Backstage Pass' goodbye at closing reception for Robert Fairer exhibition

Join SCAD FASH and London-based artist Robert Fairer for the closing reception of his first museum exhibition, Backstage Pass: Dior, Galliano, Jacobs, and McQueen. The exhibition presents more than 80 photographs drawn from Fairer’s prolific body of work that capture the zeitgeist of the turn of the 21st-century, an era of artistic zenith in runway show production.

'Christian Siriano: People Are People'

People Are People honors famed American designer Christian Siriano’s electrifying contributions to fashion. Drawn from his extensive archive, the exhibition features bold creations from Siriano’s decade-plus career that celebrate self-expression for every body at every age. SCAD FASH is proud to present Siriano’s impressive body of work to an Atlanta audience following the exhibition’s debut at the SCAD Museum of Art in 2021.

Find friendship through fashion at Dressing the Icons screening of 'The Color Purple'

Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker, The Color Purple was released to critical and commercial success in 1985. Costume designer Aggie Guerard Rodgers referenced the work of early 20th-century photographer James Van Der Zee to create her colorful, textured costumes that spanned several decades. The stunning red sequined 1920s gown, worn by both Margaret Avery as Shug and Whoopi Goldberg as Celie, remains an enduring symbol of Black female friendship, love, and desire.

Muse on the reality and fantasy of fashion at Robert Wun artist talk

Fashion designer Robert Wun joins SCAD FASH curators from his London studio for an artist talk and first look at his new exhibition, Between Reality and Fantasy.

Robert Wun exhibition: 'Between Reality and Fantasy'

Hong Kong-born, London-based fashion designer Robert Wun is optimistic about the future of fashion, an outlook inspired by his role in the recent wave of social change that celebrates inclusivity within the industry. Between Reality and Fantasy, the designer’s first museum exhibition, features looks and accessories from his earliest to his latest collections, set in a contemporary installation that embodies the futurism inherent in his work.

'Robert Fairer Backstage Pass: Dior, Galliano, Jacobs, and McQueen'

Before instantaneous access to fashion shows via livestreaming and social media, London-based artist Robert Fairer was backstage photographing the designers, models, hair and makeup artists, stylists, and others working in crowded spaces at a frenetic pace moments before the final looks were presented. His intuitive ability to frame the beauty, drama, and energy backstage resulted in stunning images — found in the pages of British Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, and eventually American Vogue — that celebrate the creative talents who contribute to the magic of the runway.

'Alaïa-Adrian: Masters of Cut'

Masters of Cut brings together sleek designs and impeccably tailored looks by beloved designers Azzedine Alaïa (1935–2017) and Gilbert Adrian (1903–1959). Garments on view display the intricate detailing of Adrian’s suits — the mitered stripes, clever seaming, and unexpected appliqués — in dialogue with Alaïa’s body-celebrating designs. Pairing their work, the exhibition reveals the designers’ intertwined and enduring legacies.

'Form & Function: Shoe Art by Chris Francis'

SCAD FASH presents Form & Function: Shoe Art by Chris Francis, an exhibition of iconic footwear by the Los Angeles-based shoe designer. Francis blurs the line between art and fashion, implementing unconventional techniques and materials. Strong colors, bold shapes and sharp lines are all characteristic of his sculptural, even architectural, designs.

Isabelle de Borchgrave exhibition: "Fashioning Art from Paper"

SCAD FASH presents "Fashioning Art from Paper," an exhibition that explores 500 years of fashion through the breathtaking trompe l'oeil masterpieces of Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave. Through her expert manipulation of paper and paint, de Borchgrave creates sculptural replicas of historic garments found in early European paintings or collections from around the world — from the Renaissance finery of the Medici family and gowns worn by Queen Elizabeth I, to the creations of the grand couturiers of the 20th century such as Charles Frederick Worth and Paul Poiret.
